Life in Kenya
CHURCH OF GOD and KENYA
"Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people"(Prov 14:34). Perhaps no verse in all the Bible speaks to the constitution and condition of a Nation like this one. And yet, by some ingenious, satanic design, morality has never been sufficiently applied to politics. Man have yet to learn that what is wrong in the individual is equally wrong in society! King Solomon wrote these words out of a rich experience of government and glory.
I was baptized under Worldwide Church of God before it went into Apostasy. Before God's Holy Spirit departed. Jesus said "take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name claiming I am the Christ, and will deceive many"(Matthew 24:4,5). His words were directed to His church-to those committed to obeying Him. Paul twenty one years later reiterated Jesus words but in a different form; "let no one deceive you by any means; for that day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the men of sin is revealed, the son of perditions"(II Thessalonians 2:3). This warning is not for the world. It is for the church, those who are called by God and who want to obey His Word-(True Believers). You can only fall away from something or from an original state which ought to have been preserved at all costs.
"The Church Of God In Truth" teaches; "Sanctify them through Thy truth; Thy word is truth" (John 17:17). We have been called out of this world to have a new life in Christ."....He died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them and rose again. Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature, old things shall pass away; behold all things are new"(II Corinthians 5:15,17). We are to become a son of God. "Having predestined unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will"(Eph 1:5). "And will be a Father unto you, and Ye shall be My sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty"(II Cor 6:18 ). The Church of God in truth has maintained the relationship with God after the Worldwide Church of God fell into apostasy. They have been working to help brethren in Kenya maintain a relationship with God, by sending us the Prove All Things Magazines, sermon tapes, the weekly world news letter and a variety of things to uplift the faith of the elect. The Church Of God in Truth members here in Kenya are now over 200 and have extended the arms to Tanzania.
The church of God Seventh day reached Kenya in 1906 at Rabai. It was later followed by the Worldwide Church of God under Herbert W. Armstrong. They established their base in Nairobi and extends its teachings to various parts of Kenya. The population in Religion is Christians 60%, Traditional belief 25%, Muslim 6% and others 9%
Kenya lies in eastern part of Africa. The official name is Republic of Kenya. It was colonized by the English. The formation of the Republic of Kenya was in 1963 when it gained it's independence. Its capital is Nairobi. The total area of Kenya is 224,961 sq. miles (582,650 sq km). The type of government is Presidential Democracy.
There are hundreds of different church denominations that claim to be following the truth of Jesus Christ, yet they teach many different gospels and disagree on countless points of doctrine. Is Jesus Christ the head of all these denominations? Is Christ divided? Or is there a believing Church of God that stands a part from this religious Babylon ? "Not everyone that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord shall enter into the Kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? And Thy name cast out devils? And in Thy name done many wonderful works?"(Matthew 7:21-23) False teachers appear in sheep clothing, that is, they appear to be Ministers and believers. They profess to know Christ and behave like Christians. They claim to be called Ministers and they hold the position of ministers within churches and use Bible verses or texts for their messages. They appear to be messengers of Light. They appear harmless, innocent and good. They start out as excellent examples of society, but they lack two things, a life and testimony changes by the word of God. "For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the Apostle of Christ. And no marvel, for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the Ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works" (II Corinthians 11: 13 -15). Some false teachers are just like wolves in that they are out for self personal gain, e.g. recognition, fame, prestige, position, livelihood, career and comfort. They are concerned primarily with realizing their own motives and purposes, pushing their own thoughts and formulas for succeeding in life. False teachers preach heresies. They proclaim justice, morality, righteous and good. They teach mental, emotional and physical strength, self imaged, self improvement and positive thinking, all the high ideals and commendable ideas of men. But they never preach the true gospel, or God's true calendar from His living words. It is the responsibility of the church of God to proclaim the true gospel as a witness, real repentance, true salvation, true baptism and what the reward of the saints will be.
The Church's of God in Kenya face many problems when it comes to assistance in looking after the poor, widows and orphans. All because the tithes in Kenya are very limited so they cannot really help the brethren that much. Another problem is communication and language. The population of Kenya is 31.3 million (139 people per sq.mile). It consists of 42 tribes who speak different languages and practices different cultures. The largest tribes is, Kikuyu 21%, and then it graduates down Luhya 14%, Luo 13%, Kamba 11%, Kalenjin 11%, and what's left is 30%.
The literacy rate in Kenya is 82.4%. Some of the tribes in Kenya are not well educated. Leaving many untaught. Some of the called brethren (John 6:44 ), do not understand English, making them computer illiterate. All this becomes a challenge because the magazines are needed to be translated in Swahili and Luo so they can have a understanding of what is written in them. Seeing that most of the brethren are illiterate and computer illiterate, personal communication is needed. They need a person to visit and teach them face to face. It is a great help and encouragement for them. Many do not have access to telephones, mobile phones, internet, or even a Radio. These are the major reasons why we do personal visits, it helps to teach and encourage them to understand thing which are said in the Bible by God servants through Books, Magazines and sermon tapes.
Diseases are common, the major disease in Kenya is Malaria which is caused by mosquito. Many living here cannot afford mosquito nets that would prevent them from getting attacked and bitten. As you can see life in Kenya has become very hard and expensive. The price of food has gone out of sight along with assets and transportation to the point that the poor can barely afford much. If a seasoned famine comes to the country, many brethren will go without food for days. In some parts of Kenya people even die of hunger. Kenya is an agricultural country with a good rainfall in some areas. Some areas are dry with a little rainfall. This makes some parts of Kenya suffer with great hunger throughout the year.
With the income down and travel cost up- it is very difficult for any of us to visit one another, seeing we are so scattered across the country. We lack having large meeting halls to rent so we meet at times under shade trees because we can not fit all in the small rooms that are available from time to time. Even these meeting rooms charge too much.
Please pray for us and God's Kingdom to come soon! Evans Ochieng
