Identifying the Holy Spirit

central doctrines advocated by the god of this world that has gained acceptance to mainstream Christianity is the belief on a Triune God. That God is a trinity. Three distinct personalities of the Godhead in one - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, co- equal but three separate divine persons combined into one. An  inquisitive mind might ask, how can that be? How can one plus one plus one equals one? Proponents of this idea say it could not be explained. It is a mystery. Indeed it could not be explained simply because it is not true. It never was true in the first place. What a pity! What a sad and painful reality that even the very core of God's saving power is not understood by the many.</div> <bR> <div>      God's Holy Spirit as a separate entity of the Godhead was never an issue during the early years of God's true church. How the decision in support of the trinity doctrine was reached is thoroughly detailed in history. Many encyclopedias and other reliable reading materials are readily available for speedy references of those who would dare care to know.     </div> <div>      It is a well documented fact that the Council of Nicaea in A.D. 325 is generally given most credit for legitimizing the idea of the trinity, just a little over 300 years after Christ was crucified. Long before that and even during the time of Christ and the apostles such an idea would have been an assertion of plain absurdity. The trinity doctrine shares striking resemblance with the triad gods commonly practiced by the pagan religions of the ancient world especially in Egypt and Babylon. And what of the Council of Nicaea ? By whose authority was it called ?  If not carefully studied one may assume that the council was called by church leaders at that time. Surprisingly, it was Emperor Constantine, himself not a Christian who initiated the council meeting. And what was his motive ? On page 258, volume 1 of “A History of Christian Thought” one will read: </div> <div>      “ <I>In 325 the Emperor Constantine called an ecclesiastical Council to meet at Nicaea in Bithynia. In the hope for securing for his throne the support of the growing body of Christians he had shown them considerable favor and it was to his interest to have the church vigorous and united. The Arian controversy (one of the side of the trinity dispute) was threatening its unity and menacing its strength. He therefore undertook to put an end to the trouble. Constantine himself of course neither knew or cared about the matter in dispute but he was eager to bring the controversy to a close</I>.” Thus the trinity doctrine was finally thrust upon the church based upon man's endless, unfounded and complex speculations about God.    </div> <div>      If one thinks that a passing glimpse of history is not enough, then take a good hard look from God's Instruction Book, the Holy Bible and consider these: If the Holy Spirit is a separate person of the Godhead, then He would certainly be Christ's Father: For Matthew 1:20, speaking of Mary states, “That which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost (Spirit).” See also Luke 1:35 which showed that the power of the Holy Spirit came upon Mary and caused conception. Yet Christ called God His Father and not the Holy Spirit (John 20:17). In His most agonizing and trying moments on earth Christ always prayed to the Father and not to the Holy Spirit (John 17:1). Clearly, even with these two compelling  biblical evidences alone can one afford to entertain the idea that our Savior Himself did not know who His Father is ?</div> <div>       If the Holy Spirit is a separate person of the Godhead, co-equal with the Father and the Son would it not be an outrageous irreverence - a serious offense to the point of being blasphemous on the part of the Apostle Paul not to mention the Holy Spirit in all of his salutations to the brethren of God's true church ? All along, Paul routinely invoked the name of the Father and the Son but never that of the Holy Spirit in all of his fourteen epistles from Romans to Hebrews. Imagine for the Apostle Paul to blatantly neglect this vital truth if indeed it is true that the Holy Spirit is a distinct person of the Godhead. </div> <div>      In Romans 8:17, Paul identified Christians as heirs of the Father and of Christ but left out the Holy Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 11:3 he said, “But I would have you to know that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of a woman is man; and the head of Christ is God.” Notice the beautiful chain of command responsibility Paul is explaining here: The woman is under the man, the man is under Christ and Christ is under God. Where does the Holy Spirit, the supposed distinct third being of the Godhead fit into all this ? Where ?</div> <div>      We are further given an idea on how ascendancy of power in God's government operates. We know from Paul's writing that Christ sits at the right hand of God in God's heavenly throne. (Colossians 3:1 compared with Hebrews 12:2). But where does the Holy Spirit sit?</div> <div>      Job 32:8 categorically states that there is a spirit in man and 1 Corinthians 2:10 reveals that God also has His own Spirit that searcheth all things. But that does not make the spirit of man another person apart from that man just as the Holy Spirit of God another person, a separate entity and co-equal of God. Would it not be a lot of nonsense and plain irrational to say so ? The spirit of man another person separate from that man ? Ridiculous! What an embarrassing display of self-imposed ignorance. The spirit of man imparts the power of intellect making possible by which he can have a relationship with God while the Spirit of God is the power that emanates from Him - the very instrumentality by which all things were made by Christ as the spokesman of the God family. “For what man knoweth the things of man save the spirit of man which is in him ? even so the things of God knoweth no man but the spirit of God” (1 Corinthians 2:11). </div> <div>      In Acts 2:38 we can read that the Holy Spirit is a gift, something that is given to those who have repented of their sins and reconciled to God by the death of His Son.“Then Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” “And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh” (Acts 2:17).  “On the gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 10:45).  Now, if the Holy Spirit is a person, can one pour out one person to another?  “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance but He that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear, He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire” (Matthew 3:11). In 2nd Timothy 1:6, Paul reminded the young evangelist Timothy to stir up the gift of the Holy Spirit, otherwise it will be quenched. He said:  “Wherefore. I put thee to remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God.” “Quench not the Spirit” (1 Thessalonians 5:19).  The Holy Spirit can also appear as a dove. “And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water, and lo, the heavens were opened unto Him and He saw the spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him.”</div> <div>      It is borne throughout the Bible that from the start there were only two personages of God. “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God” (John 1:1).  When the Word was begotten by the Father through His Holy Spirit and born through a human mother Mary that was now the time when the relationship of God the Father and God the Son begun. “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth” (John1:14).  From that day on, it is again borne out of the Holy Scripture that God the Father have always remained to be God the Father and Jesus Christ have always been the Son of the Living God. I suppose we could not afford to look at them any other way. Of course, no human being have seen the Father but we can deduce from other scriptural passages coupled by the respect accorded by Christ to the Father that God the Father like our human father is always in authority over the son. I wonder the confusion Christ would have created among His disciples if time and again He would appear in some other form like the Holy Spirit. After all, God is not the Author of confusion. The Holy Spirit on the other hand is the power that emanates from God. It is something and not someone that is given as a gift to those who have repented of their sins and not all human beings can have it. Unlike the Father and the Son who are stationary in their spiritual state, the Holy Spirit comes in many forms positive proof that it is not a person -  enough to expose the most revered belief on the trinity as mere religious fiction.</div> <div>      And if we have to go a little further, one may recall that before Christ's ascension to heaven He commanded the apostles to remain in Jerusalem and wait for the Holy Spirit that will give them power to carry out their commission of preaching the good news of the coming Kingdom of God. “And being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which saith He, ye have heard of Me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days hence. But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Spirit is come upon you” (Acts 1: 4-5,8).   “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all of one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound  from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting and there appeared unto them cloven  tongues  like  as  of  fire,  and  it  sat   upon each of them and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and begun to speak with other tongues, as the spirit give them utterance” (Acts 2: 1-4).  Clearly, there is nothing from among these passages could even suggest that the Holy Spirit is a person, a distinct member of the Godhead. </div> <div>      It should also be noted that except for some prophets and a few other men of God the Holy Spirit have never been made available to the whole of humanity. Until now, the world at large remain in ignorance of this incredible but staggering reality.  “And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man that He had formed. And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil” (Genesis 2:8-9). </div> <div>      Man have sinned, so the story goes. “So He drove out the man, and He placed at the east of the garden Cherubims and a flaming swords which turns in every way, to keep the way of the tree of life” (Genesis 3:24). Did you get that! Cherubims and flaming swords turning in every way was placed in the garden so that man won't be able to enter paradise anymore and partake of the tree of life. “And the Lord God said, Behold the man is become one of Us, to know good and evil: and now lest he put forth his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever” (Genesis 3:22).  Ask any pastor, evangelist or religious scholars and they will tell you that the tree of life is a symbol of the Holy Spirit of God but one thing they are ignorant about is the fact that God's Holy Spirit have been generally withheld to the whole of humanity. Why? Because God knows that sin have its own way of multiplying. That once man could partake of the tree of life and life forever with all the wickedness and evils in his veins he will never attain happiness in that miserable condition. “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Genesis 6:5).   No wonder, of the entire human race, only an insignificant eight were saved from the flood to start a new civilization.</div> <div> It is also a matter of record that even during the entire period of Christ's ministry, the spirit of God was still withheld from humanity. “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, if any man thirst, let him come unto Me and drink. He that believeth in Me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this He speak of the spirit which they that believe on Him should receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given because that Jesus was not yet glorified” (John 7:37-39). That is why even Israel whom we know to be God's chosen people failed to live a godly life for without God's Holy Spirit conversion is impossible. Man may be able to obey the physical requirements of the Ten Commandments but he will never be able to comply with its spiritual intent because God's law is spiritual and man is physical.</div> <div>      Another vital truth we must keep fresh in our minds is that God is a family. It is not a close family of three. The trinity doctrine contradicts with the very purpose for which man was created. Please recall to memory the majestic event that happened during the sixth day of creation week. “And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind and everything that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness and let him have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the Cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping things that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him, male and female, created He them” (Genesis 1:25-27). </div> <div>      If only the human mind could grasp the intended meaning of the above-quoted passages I am sure he would immediately throw away the satanic idea of a Triune god and stand amazed at the awesome marvelous plan God had set in motion of reproducing himself. Take the time to consider: The beast were made after their kind, the cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after their kind. Then in verse 26 we find the amazing revelation that man was made after the God kind. We were made in God's image, in His likeness.  In other words, we look like God. While all others were made after their own kind, we alone have been made after the God kind. Of course, God is a spirit (John 4: 24) and we cannot see Him yet but when we are resurrected  we will see Him as He is. </div> <div>      So we were created after God's likeness and image. As such, we were given power to have dominion  over all other creations. As human beings, flesh and blood, this authority was given in a limited sense. Momentarily, all earthly things but Hebrews 2 gives us added insight into our ultimate potentials. Verse 5 says: “For unto the angels hath He not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak.” In short,  the world to come was not subjected to the angels and though man are now made a little lower than them yet all things including the angels will ultimately be subjected to their authority. “Thou madest him a little lower than the angels, thou crownedst him with glory and honor and didst set him over the works of thy hands: Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet, For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him” (Hebrews 2:7-8).  Notice further, “Who shall change our vile body that it maybe fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself” (Phil 3:21).  “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be but we know that when He shall appear, we shall be like Him for we shall see Him as He is”(1 John 3:2).   “Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end” (Isaiah 9:7).   How plain ! God is a family. A growing family. An ever expanding family into which we may be born.  The ultimate purpose of man is to inherit “all things” the whole universe when we are actually born as spirit members of the God family. “ For even the creation groans with eager longing for the birth of the sons of God” (Rom 8:22).  Meanwhile, God is a family composed only of two God-beings with the Holy Spirit sustaining the entire creation. But soon, millions, if not billions of human beings who through a process of overcoming will join them to compose God's Family in the Kingdom of God.   </div> <div>      The Bible is replete with evidences of a family relationship. The word trinity on the other hand is never mentioned in the Bible, NOT EVEN ONCE. The pagan doctrine of the trinity does not include any of us because it limits God to three. Satan can't be in the God Family. He does not want us to be there either. So, the next time around, we better ask ourselves - could we possibly be in the kingdom while nurturing a wrong concept of what the Holy Spirit really is ?
