Why they will fight Christ at his coming
WHY WILL THEY FIGHT CHRIST AT HIS COMING?
Trumpets were very important instruments to Israel, especially during their exodus from Egypt. God instructed Moses to make two silver trumpets and how and when to use them. “Make two silver trumpets for yourself; you shall make them of hammered work; you shall use them for calling the congregation and for directing movement of the camp. When they blow both of them, all congregation shall gather before you at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. But if they only blow one, then the leaders, the heads of the divisions of Israel, shall gather to you. When you sound the advance the camps
that lie on the east side shall then begin their journey; they shall sound the call for them to begin their journeys. And when the assemble is to be gathered together, you shall blow, but not sound the advance. The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets; and these shall be to you as an ordinance forever throughout your generations. When you go to war in your land against the enemy who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the Lord your God, and will be saved from you enemies. Also in the day of your gladness, in your appointed feasts, and at the beginning of your months, your shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; and they shall be a memorial for you before your God: I am the Lord your God” (Numbers 10:2-10, All verses quoted from New King James Version).
With hundreds of thousands comprising the camps of Israel during exodus, the use of trumpets was necessary for the calling to assembly and to directing the movement of the camps. Of importance to note is the use of one trumpet in calling for the leaders, and the use of two trumpets when the congregation is the one being summoned to assembly. This is an ordinance forever throughout the generation of Israel as emphasized in verse eight. Today this ordinance is still in effect because the generation of Israel is still existing and continuing. As we study the scripture, we can look back to this ordinance to ascertain who is summoned or referred to when trumpets are blown.
In Leviticus, God instructed Moses regarding an annual Sabbath on the first day of the seventh month. “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: In the seventh Month, on the First day of the month, you shall have a Sabbath-rest, a Memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation” (Lev.23:24). As described we know that is the Feast of Trumpets for the Church of God, In Truth, which falls on September 21s t this year. This world's calendar puts the new moon on September 22nd at 7:45 pm while most churches of God follow Mr. H.W. Armstrong's use of the Jewish calendar, which will observe September 23rd for the Feast of Trumpets this year. This is not surprising because we know that their new
moon is the very young crescent moon first observed from Jerusalem. This wrong way of determining the new moon will give a wrong start for the seventh month and a wrong day for keeping the feast of trumpets [an annual Sabbath]. Since the Jews basically base of start the rest of the year on the first day of the seventh month, a wrong day to start the year will make everything wrong. This serious error will bring about serious consequences that we shall see later on.
The fourth step in God's plan of salvation is a memorial of blowing of trumpets. This means that more than one trumpet is being blown; therefore it is the congregation of Israel that is being called to assembly and not their leaders as per ordinance given to Israel. We understand from long ago that the Feast of Trumpets is the time when Jesus Christ will return to earth to establish God's Kingdom. If Christ returns on the day of Trumpets and is calling only the congregation [the servants and the mixed multitude], where are the first fruits (Rev. 14:4) and when are they going to be called to assembly? The first-fruits [wise virgins of Matt. 25:4] had already been called on the previous feast of first-fruits [Pentecost]. Revelation 14:4 described them, “These are they who follow Christ [Lamb] wherever He goes.” They follow Christ even to observing the annual Sabbaths on their true appointed times. The firstfruits are also described to come with Christ when He returns, “These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those with Him are called, chosen and the faithful” (Rev 17:14). Firstfruits are the called, the chosen and the faithful, three distinguishing traits or marks that we should have in order to be with Jesus Christ when He returns from heaven. Jude 14 also tells of Enoch who prophesied about them, “Enoch the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His Saints.” Both Rev. 17:14 and Jude 14 are proofs that when Jesus Christ return on the Feast of Trumpets, the first fruits [saints] will be coming with Him, contrary to previous belief that firstfruits will only be resurrected at the Feast of Trumpets. The marriage super of the Lamb had already occurred in heaven for the 144,000 bride [wise virgins] as suggested by Luke. “Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning; and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, who when He will return from the wedding, that when He comes and knocks they may open to Him immediately” (Luke 12:35-36). Before joining God's true church, I was at a loss where to fit in these verses, but thanks be to God, He did not deny His words to me. “Turn at My rebuke; surely I will pour out My spirit on you; I will make My words known to you” (Proverbs 1:23 ). Because we obey God and love the truth we would be sanctified and protected as Jesus Christ promised in His word.
We know that Jesus Christ will return to earth after the tribulation of Satan's wrath and before the wrath of God upon those who were not sealed for protection. Christ returns to a world of chaos and trouble, a world at war and in dire need of a savior, and unless He intervenes, no flesh would be saved alive (Matthew 24:22). The coming of the Savior of the world is supposed to be a most welcomed event, a glorious occasion for a troubled and dying world, yet this is not what will happen as prophesied in Rev. 6:15-16, that people will fear their only hope and Savior. “And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains and they said to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!” John records that the people of this word would even gather themselves together to fight against Christ when He comes with His army [the saints]. “And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army” (Rev. 19:19). Why will people fear and fight Christ, their only hope and deliverer when He comes? God's word reveals the answer if we delve deeply by the spirit of God. People will fear and fight Christ when He returns because they will be deceived into thinking that it is the Antichrist who is coming. They will be deceived because they did not believe God in His word [truth]. Because of their unbelief, 2nd Thessalonians 2:10-11 was applied to them. “And with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the TRUTH, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie.” Truly people will fear and fight Christ at His coming because they will be deceived into believing that the one who is coming is the Antichrist, therefore they will fight Him.
They are deceived because they won't believe Christ when He said in Psalms 104:19, that the setting of the sun is the precedence in finding the true new moon. Believing and obeying God's word [truth John 17:17] would give them the correct annual Sabbaths, hence they would be sanctified by the truth.
Satan had been deceiving mankind since his successful deception of Eve in the Garden of Eden. But there is yet a prophesied religious deception that Satan is working out and if humanity wants to avoid it they must prepare. 2nd Thessalonians 2:9 bares this out, “The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders.” In Rev. 13:12-18 we read of a beast, who deceived the masses by means of miraculous signs. Paul calls this same person “the man of sin” and warns us not be deceived by him (2 Thess. 2:3). We already know that those who will be described are those who did not receive the love of the truth, and for this reason, God will send them strong delusions, that they might believe the lie (verse 10:11). We know that the Bible teaches that the beast deceives people by doing what appear to be miracles as we can read in Rev. 13:13-14, “....he performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. Ane he deceives those who dwell on earth by those signs which he was granted to be in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on earth to make and image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived.” But that's not all, 2nd Thessalonians 2:9-10 speaks of power, signs, lying wonders, unrighteous deception, strong delusion and lies. These words imply that he might employ more that just miraculous signs. Undoubtedly, as the spiritual head of a powerful, false, worldwide religion he would promulgate false doctrines. As false prophet he would also have some connection with foretelling the future as the word prophet means.
Prophecies are sobering, some of which are quite specific. They receive increase dissemination as time goes on, and then it is easy to see how Jesus Christ could be mistaken for the antichrist by those people caught up in the Babylon's system. Only those who believe and love the truth of the Bible will avoid being deceived on the most fundamental issue.
What about us? Are we also to fear Christ at His Home coming? The spirit of antichrist, the spirit of deception is already in this world as John tells us, “And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world” (1 John 4:3 ). This verse tells us that Antichrist had already begun his work of deception and if we remain steadfast we are already by that time in the place of protection.
For us who love the truth, there is no reason to fear for perfect love cast out fear. “Love has been perfected among us in this; that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love cast out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love” (1 John 4:17-18). Fear then is caused by the absence of love. Love is the antidote to fear. Here are three ways in which the presence of Godly love will cast out fear to keep us firm and strong in the faith, called, the chosen and the faithful:
1) Keep God's commandments - Not keeping
God's commandments is the antithesis of love, because 1John 5:3 teaches us that “...this is the love of God that we keep His commandments...” If a person is not obeying God's commandments he is sinning. A sinner has a guilty conscience towards God and would want to hide himself from Him as Adam and Eve did in the garden of Eden. The apostle John also wrote, “ Now by this we know that we know Him, if we Keep His commandments. He who says, `I know Him' and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (1 John 2:3-4). People today fear Christ's appearing because of their unrepentant attitude to the evils that they are doing and want God out of their way. What about us? Would we feel confident, if Christ were to come tomorrow? If not, maybe we need to evaluate how well we know and love God as defined by the scriptures above.
2) Observe God's Holy Days in their true Appointed Time. The religious holidays observed by the world today are traditions of men and do not lay out any coherent plan or purpose for life. Other churches of God either have done away of observing God's Holy Days or observe them on the wrong days to suit their time of convenience not on God's appointed times. Because of this, people who do not observe God's Holy Days will truly fear Christ and fight Him when He comes. Members of the churches of God who observe God's holy Days, but not on their appointed days, will have to gird their waist and have their lamps burning as advised in Luke 12:35 in preparation for Satan's wrath where they will learn the truth the hard and painful way. Christ also said, “I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see” (Rev. 3:18). Keeping God's Holy Days on their right appointed time assures one of seeing God's promised protections [both physical and spiritual]. God will reveal Himself to you as He promised, if you seek Him.
3) Love the truth - By loving God's truth we
will not be fooled or deceived by false teachers and their false doctrines. Loving the truth is living by it and upholding it as well as protecting it. God's word is the truth that we must live by, just as the Lord Himself lived. As written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). Those words are firm when loving the truth and are encouraged by the apostle Paul, “But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the TRUTH, which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the tradition which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle” (2 Thess. 2:13-15).
If people love the truth they will not fear the appearance of the sign of the Son of Man in the heavens. They will eagerly anticipate it. They will not be deceived into thinking that the heavenly visitor is Antichrist but surely recognize Him as their Savior, their much awaited Deliverer and Answer to all the world's ills. And like the apostle Paul, we will look forward to the day when we will receive “a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only, but also to all who have loved His appearing” (2 Timothy 4:8).
“Make thee two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps. And when they shall blow with them, all the assembly shall assemble themselves to thee at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
And if they blow but with one trumpet, then the princes, which are heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee” (Num 10:2-4).
