Connecting the Dots!
When young, do you remember having a coloring book? It was always a challenge trying to color in the picture and stay within the lines. It taught and educated us on the world we were born into. Some of the drawings were challenging to color and fill in then others, but what a variety from Tinker-bell, to Dinosaurs, to a farm with animals, ect, ect. Some of the pages in the coloring book would have dots on it with numbers or letters on top of the dots. The trick was to see if you could guess what it pictured before finishing to draw in the lines from point 1 to point 2 to point 3 and so on. Connecting the dots are like connecting verses in the Bible when looking to solve a mystery in God’s word, We are admonished to do this in Isaiah 28, “Whom shall He teach knowledge? And whom shall He make to understand doctrine? Them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little” (Isaiah 28:9-10).
God’s instruction book to life is telling us we will not see a clear picture of God’s mystery’s until we fill in the gaps! “A little here and a little there.” God’s truth will be presented clearly and logically if we follow His instructions, letting one point lead naturally on to another, and only then can a person become thoroughly acquainted with God’s truth.
But being acquainted to truth without having God’s Holy Spirit will only leave you unable to understand God’s word of truth! According to Paul “God has revealed truth unto us by His spirit: for the spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so the things of God knows no man, but the spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, [traditions of Judaism, Protestantism, ect, ect, ] but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God”(1 Cor 2: 9-10). A person not having God’s spirit will have difficulty connecting–“Precept upon precept – line upon line– here a little and there a little.”
In the first three verses of God’s instruction book, God sets the stage for our first test, on, “here a little there a little – line upon line – precept upon precept.” “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Gen 1:1). That verse starts with “in the beginning God,” this is a translation of three Hebrew words, “bereshith; Bara; Elohim.” It correctly means “In a beginning God.” If it was supposed to say “In the beginning,” the Hebrew should read [Ba] “bareshith” but it does not, it reads [Be] “bereshith” [in a beginning]. We should also notice the word “Heaven” is plural and should be translated as “Heavens.”Many translation acknowledged this correction. Verse 2, and the earth was without form, and void; this same Hebrew word “was” is used in Gen 2:7 and Gen 9:15. There it is translated into the English word “Became.” It denotes a condition that was different from the former condition. Verse 2, should read “And the earth “became” without form and void,” [waste and empty] [ tohu and bohu ] and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”
Verse 3, “And God said, let there be light: and there was light.” The King James Study Bible, published by Thomas Nelson interprets these verses by commenting: “In the beginning (Heb- be - resh -it): creation marks the absolute beginning of the temporal and material world. The traditional Jewish and Christian “belief” is that Genesis 1:1, declares that God created the heaven and earth from nothing (Lat – ex - nihi - lo) and that verse 2 clarifies that when it came from the Creators hand, the mass was "Without form and void," unformed and without any life. The rest of the chapter then explains the process of creation in detail. There is no evidence in the Hebrew text for long ages of evolutionary development or a gap of time between verse 1 and verse 2.”
That is a clear belief and teaching from scholars who have been educated in the traditions of Judaism or the traditions of Protestantism. It was this same Judaism – Protestant theological teaching’s that tore the Worldwide Church of God apart. Satan found a weakness in its leadership after Mr. Armstrong died. They lost their focus on the principles of the Sabbath and God’s Holy Days and the true meaning of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice! They became blinded and confused after attending Post graduate study and graduating from Fuller Theological Seminary, in Pasadena California — that is a very Protestant College. They felt they had learned “New Truth.” The Protestant teaching of God’s word in the Worldwide Church of God became tohu and bohu– waste and empty, and that was what happened after the church leadership departed from believing and teaching Biblical truth.
The Apostle Paul tells us, “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints” (1Cor 14:33) and in verse 40, “So let all things be done decently and in order.” These two verses do not back up Gen 1: verse 2, when God originally created the heavens and the earth, which says: “The earth--was– without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.” That sounds like there was confusion and disorder.
Lets not depart from God’s true teaching. In John 1:1, there it is revealed that "in a beginning" a certain relationship existed between God the Father and Jesus Christ. In that relationship – Jesus Christ willingly and unconditionally submitted to the authority and leadership of God the Father. Jesus Christ would be the executive to always carry out the Father's will. “In a beginning was the Word, [Jesus Christ] and the word was with God, and the word was God. The same was in the beginning with God” ( John 1:1-2).
Within that foundational relationship they together determined to reproduce themselves and to create a family of God beings. But their first step towards that goal was to create helpers, so they created a myriad number of angels to preceded their human physical creation. It took a period of time training all these newly created angelic beings to respond to God’s perfect devine laws and desires that was needed if they were to watch over the Kingdom of God. During this period, the one who became Satan was trained as a covering cherub in the very presence of God the Father. He was at this time the highest of all the created beings. Notice what Ezekiel 28 tells us: “You art the anointed cherub [notice he was not an angel, he was a cherub] that covers; and I have set you so: you were upon the Holy mountain of God; you have walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, till Iniquity [sin] was found in you” (Eze 28 :14-15).
It was during this time period God was creating the universe in which to carry out Their plan for their future created family to have a residency. All the angels witnessed this great creation of the universe. It was an unbelievable achievement of perfection they witnessed. They saw the universe fill up with the mass of stars, planets, milky way, along with the sun and the moon, and the rotation of the galaxies. That is not what the tradition of Judaism and Protestantism teach or believe. They believe all was just a mass of unformed matter that was without life.
Remember what we read in 1 Corinthians: 1). “God is not the author of confusion; 2). God is the author of peace; 3). God is the author of order and of law. Why would God create the earth in chaos and disorder? And then have to straighten it out? That doesn’t make sense!
The Hebrew word for “Created” is [bara –baw–raw] Strong’s #1254 in Genesis 1:1. It implies that the creation was perfect and in a beautiful order, not in chaos or confusion. Created also expresses a completed action in the past. When the angles watched “God create the heavens and the earth” there was a spontaneous feeling in them to sing and to shout with a joy of excitement for what they just witnessed. We read of that fact in Job 38: where we see the Lord giving Job his first challenge to answer for his self-righteousness. “Where were you [Job] when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding. Who has laid the measures thereof, if you know ? Or who has stretched the line upon it? Where upon are the foundations thereof fastened? Or who laid the corner stone thereof; when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” (Job 38:4-7). God is speaking to Job about a time period before the creation of man, when only angles and Lucifer were present, at the time He originally created the heavens and the earth.
When God had completed creating the heavens [this universe] and the earth in verse 1 of Genesis 1, is when the angles sang and shouted for joy! At this point God still continued training the angels, and Lucifer – who became Satan, whom He sent to rule over the earth. At this time the earth had just been created perfect, it glimmered like a jewel in space! It was at this beginning point when Lucifer was to take over, God expressed a high level of importance, along with an entrusted responsibility to one third of the angels that were under the leadership of the one who became Satan.
They were to prepare this planet for the next phase of God's plan, which was the creation of physical human beings. While Satan was here on earth as the leader over one third of all the angels, he generated a totally new way of thinking, one that had never before existed anywhere in the universe. It was the way of "me first," the way of selfishness, the way of get rather than the way of give. It was in total opposition to the way God and all the angels had always functioned. Satan became extremely vain and determined in his mind to take over God the Father’s throne and supreme rulership of the universe. We find evidence of this in Isaiah 14:13-14; “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most high. Yet you shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” So Satan, by lying, and using deception and flattery, coerced one third of the angels under his leadership to join him in rebellion against God. Lucifer formed the first ever "army" of war lords. It was at this time that the cherub Lucifer got his title “Satan” adversary.
In Jude 6, we read the evidence of angelic demons following Satan leadership. “The angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, [left their inherited earth with Satan their ruler]. It was at this period a great battle for control of the universe-caused astronomical destruction upon the earth and much of the universe Animal and plant life that then lived was destroyed and were rapidly buried, and became fossilized. The earth then became chaotic, waste and empty, just as Gen 1:2 properly rendered it.
We are now confronted with a totally different scene we now see an earth that had come to be in ruins, in darkness and covered with water and life taken from it. There is no indication as to how long this battle continued. But we do understand that at some point Satan and his army rose up from this earth to confront God in an attempt to grab control of the universe from God and to take over His ruling position.
In the battle that ensued Satan and his followers were emphatically defeated, they were thrown back down to this earth like bolts of lightning. Christ said, “I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven” (Luke 10:18). In the process of this rebellion against God a great deal of damage had been inflicted to the earth and universe. Everything that had been achieved in the physical creation up to that point in time was destroyed, pot marked and laid waste. The universe, including our solar system, had also suffered some physical damage.
There is one other point we should notice in Genesis 1:2. “And the earth was without form, and void; [tohu and bohu] and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” One thing here should be noticed, is the major error creationist’s make: they attribute the totality of earth’s strata to a flood in Noah’s day. They overlook the physical evidence of event’s including flooding before and up to the climax of Gen 1: 2. Traditional Judaism and Protestant’s teach their students to believe is that God created the earth “Without form and life.”
In Isaiah 45, is found an inspired verse claiming and proving God did not create this earth in tohu and bohu, that is not in confusion, not in disorder, not desolate, not empty and marked with pot-holes. “For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God Himself that formed the earth and made it; He has established it, He created it not in vain, [tohu- in waste] He formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else” (Isaiah 45:18). It is very clear there is a gap – space of many years of time between Gen 1:1, creation by God and a recreation, a renewed earth. In the Psalms of David, a man after God’s own heart, reveals a verse proving God did not create the earth in tohu or in bohu. David is speaking and clarifying Gen 1:2, by saying: “You sent forth Your spirit, they are created: and you renewest the face of the earth” (Psa 104: 30).
Earth was designed to be the home of mankind from the beginning regardless of what may be the purpose of Satan and what ruin he and his demons may have accomplish by sin. But God’s original plan will at length be carried out. Sin only had postponed the realization of that purpose.
There is another verse that needs to be made clear when speaking about Gen1:2. We find that verse in the chapter of commandments. “For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath Day, and hallowed it” (Ex 20:11). Here we are told “in six days the Lord “made” heaven and earth. This is another verse the traditions of Judaism and Protestantism use to support their no gap theory between Gen 1:1 to 3.
We should all be familiar with the verses that relate to “One day is as a 1000 years to the Lord” in 2 Peter 3. “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day” (2 Peter 3: 8). We should remember that God is timeless. He does not live in a sphere of time as we do. Our time is determined by the relation of the sun to the earth, and God is not limited by this relationship. Consider, if God says one day is as a thousand years, then our days of one year is 365 day– times 1000, and that equals 365 thousand years in God’s time. Notice now, one year of ours multiple 365 thousand by 7000, you get 2 billion 555 million years for the whole count of God’s seven thousand year plan.
Another scripture to back that is Psalms 90:verse 4, “For a thousand years in Thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.”
Another word in Genesis 1:1, is the word “made.” It is Strong’s number 6213. It’s meaning in the New Brown–Driver–Briggs–Gesenius–Hebrew–English–Lexicon and the Gesenius Hebrew–Chaldee–Lexicon of the Old Testament, “made:” is in past tense– a completed action in the past;
1). a work performed — past tense
2). exercise sovereigns over performing sign— past tense
3). made something into something — past tense
4). accomplished to bring forth — past tense
5). make something out of something — past tense
6). attend to put in order — past tense
Not one of these definition uses a term of being presently created. All are verbs — past tense — renew meanings.
Ex 20:11 could read: “For in 2 billion 555 million years the Lord [ accomplished to bring forth the] heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh Thousand day: wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.” That verse brings us to God in the person of Jesus Christ, who then proceeded to repair the damage done to this earth by Satan’s rebellion.
God started off by thinning out the fumes and vapors that had covered over this planet earth, remember it was in a state of tohu and bohu, chaotic confusion, wasted and empty. But some sun light above the firmament was able to penetrate to the surface of the earth on the first day, even though a heavy cloud cover remained. It was not till the fourth day that the sun and the moon actually became visible from the earths vantage point. By then the atmosphere was becoming clear, and the daily cycles of the sun and the moon could be readily observed allowing the remaining activities. This is the basic sequence of events that lead up to the creation of man.
As far as criticizing this understanding which recognizes "a gap" between the first two verses of Genesis is concerned, there are many other places in the Bible where there is "a gap" in time between two consecutive verses. God never said, or implied that the Bible would be written in clear, easy-to-follow terms, where everything is always in a chronologically perfect sequence or in a perfect table of events.
Isaiah 28:13 says: “But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon Precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.” In the next chapter Isaiah 29: verse 11 says: “And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, read this, I pray you: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed.”
This article boils down to try and help people who get their information from the tradition of Judaism, Protestantism, or elsewhere, they really don’t understand how God’s truth is found. Isa 28:9-10, is written to help them in their study in “proving all things.” “Whom shall He teach knowledge? and whom shall He make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
